This Christmas, I decided to combine prototyping for maiin-maiin with
presents for two of Suraya's friends Charlotte and Julia. Suraya has
known Charlotte since she was one and a half years old. They were both
at the Kindergarten Löwenzahn ( Dandelion
) in the Knaackstrasse in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg. Julia, was at the
same Kindergarten, but in another group. She joined Suraya and Charlotte
in Edel's group in 2011.
I combined several ideas. The tic-tac-toe bag with Christmas colours and snow.
Instead of noughts and crosses, I made two different types of
snowflakes. The bag is deep green with shiny red lining. The front side
of the bag, which is the game surface, has the 3 x 3 grid made of 3 x 3
rows of buttons onto which the snowflakes are buttoned. They would need
an extra snowflake in order to play this game. So I added another
randomly sewn on. To make it look a bit more organic I added another
two, and just in case they lose flakes. They could also use the flakes
on other maiin-maiin products like the hair ties and skirts and stuff.
I
also wanted to test the connection between object and storytelling.
Scanning a code on the bag would lead them to a series of videos that
would:
- show how the snowflakes are crocheted and how the bag was made
- teach how to play tic-tac-toe
-
include a song that relates to snow like "Schneeflöckchen Weißröckchen".
I
will publish this now and add some audiovisual content in the next few
days. It is the Christmas break. Hanno and I will have some time to make
the DIY and game play videos.
